Higor Fiuza and his carpet python, Shiva, became famous when their surfing video went viral recently.
According to the New York Post, this fame caught the attention of wildlife protection officials.
According to the Queensland Department of Environment and Science, Fiuza broke the regulations to protect the welfare of native wildlife.
They argued that Fiuza abused the snake.
He also violates the permit to show snakes in public places. As a consequence, Fiuza was fined A$2,322 ($1,495).
Wildlife officer Jonathan McDonald said bringing native pets into public places could be stressful for them. That can result in unpredictable behavior.
