Australia Test New Glow-In-The-Dark Highway Markings, Make It Safer To Drive At Night
An Australian company named Tarmac Linemarking has gained viral attention for its glow-in-the-dark road line markings.
The trial run was carried out on a one-kilometer stretch of Metong Road in Victoria’s southeast, Australia and images were shared on Facebook.
These innovative markings are created using the science of photoluminescence, similar to glow-in-the-dark stickers and toys. The special coating absorbs sunlight during the day and emits the stored light at night, enhancing visibility for both drivers and pedestrians in the dark.
Tarmac Linemarking's John Emanuelli revealed that the trial's viral photos sparked many interest. The project aligns with the Victorian government's $4 million program aimed at enhancing safety through innovative ideas.
Plans also include exploring LED-lit pavements for intersections and expanding the use of reflective markings. These glow-in-the-dark road lines offer better guidance for drivers approaching curves and intersections, aiding unfamiliar travelers.
Images of the illuminated markings were shared on Facebook and collected almost 10,000 likes and numerous praise. The technology has been used on biking gear and was briefly introduced on Dutch roads in 2014. Its current application on highways is gaining widespread attention for its potential to save lives.
