Kangaroos have a highly specialized reproductive system. Female kangaroos have two uteri and can be simultaneously pregnant with different-stage embryos. They can pause the development of one embryo (embryonic diapause) while nurturing another joey in their pouch.

 Kangaroos are known for their powerful hind legs, which are adapted for hopping. They are the only large mammal that uses hopping as its primary means of locomotion, and they can cover large distances at high speeds, hopping at up to 40 mph (64 km/h) for short bursts.
